Mombasa,KENYA:Boni forest in Lamu county will be bombed to flush out Alshabaab militia, Security officials at coast region have said.

Residents living around the forest have also been asked  to evacuate before the attack is launched.

Coast region coordinator Nelson Marwa on Thursday said the Alshabaab militia have been attacking security personnel and now they have turned  to children.

“They have been attacking our security personnel  by planting IEDs and now they have turned to school children”,said Mr Marwa.

He made the remarks a day after  eight people who include four police officers and four school children were killed   on Tuesday after a roadside bomb hit their vehicle.

No group has confirmed responsibility for the attack so far but the Somalia based Alshabaab militia group have launched several attacks in the area mostly targeting security personnel.

Mr Marwa asked the residents leaving around the expansive Bonni forest to help security personnel in volunteering information.

He also urged them to keep off the forest as major attacks will be launched.

“This is a message I am sending out there,we need to bomb that forest completely,we need to deal with that forest and deal with this criminals ,you gon a  a see a change of strategy there,”Marwa told reporters.

However the  government  launched an operation to flush out militants from the Boni Forest in 2015 which is headed by various security agencies.

Marwa did not specify which agency would be tasked with bombing of the Forest.
