Mombasa,KENYA:The Miritini rehabilitation center is set to be opened in two months.
This is according to the Director of the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) in Mombasa George Karisa who revealed that during the commemoration of the international day against drug trafficking that were held in Kisimani in Nyali constituency on Wednesday.
NACADA had collaborated with other CBO’S and organizations to commemorate the day.
Karisa also revealed that the coast region was leading in the number of people engaged in drug and substance abuse in the country at 13.7% of the population.
“Research has shown that the coast region has over 18,000 drug users” Karisa said.
Reformed addicts also attended the commemoration encouraging those who were still enslaved by drug abuse to seek rehabilitation.
Onesmus Kipande a reformed drug addict who is a father of two said he was enslaved by drugs for a period of 18 years.
He narrated that his first marriage fell apart due to mere concern that he had towards the family, and made a plea to the youth to shun substance abuse.
