Nairobi, KENYA: Visa Oshwal in Westlands has demolished part of the centre that is lying on riparian land.
Following an agreement with NEMA, Visa Oshwal, which was among buildings earmarked for demolitions, started demolishing part of the centre on Saturday.
Through a statement, the community’s vice chairman Jinit Shah said they had been notified by the relevant authorities on the modifications required.
“We have been notified by the authorities on the modification required and shall embark on the same immediately,” read the statement.
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko had earlier stated that the temple, the monuments and cultural centre would be preserved as they were far from the river, but the rest of the structures like the hall that were within the stipulated riparian distance must be removed.
“The community is law abiding and in compliance with the land rules has brought down part of the temple,” Jinit Said.
The temple is the fourth in the ongoing demolitions in Nairobi.
Kisumu Governor, Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o has also warned those with properties on riparian land in the lakeside city to start evacuating.
