Police reveal “MRC’s” plot to disrupt voter registration process in Mombasa

Mombasa, KENYA: Security organs in Likoni, Mombasa are on high alert following intelligence reports that Mombasa Republican Council MRC is regrouping to disrupt the ongoing IEBC voter registration process.

Likoni deputy county commissioner Albert Kimathi confirmed to Baraka FM on Wednesday that the group has been on police radar for long and its security was on top of things to avert any incident that may arise.

“We have received reports that MRC members meet every weekend in one of the forests within Likoni together with some MCA’s every night, to discuss ways of disrupting voter registration process.” Said Kimathi.

On Tuesday, MRC secretary general Nzai Ruwa told Baraka FM that they had written to the Coast region coordinator Nelson Marwa asking him to meet the officials of the group ahead of the general elections.

Ruwa said their meetings are not secretive and dismissed allegations that they want to disrupt the voter registration process.

Mr Kimathi has however warned of drastic measures against any criminal group or militia that attempts to disrupt the voter registration in the area.

The county commissioner said they have been trailing some of the suspect’s to get more information about their mission within the sub county.

“We are closely working with our security men around the clock.We want to identify the joint places of the members where we can lay our Dragnet’s,” said Mr kimathi.

Mr Ruwa confirmed that they had written a letter to Marwa through their lawyer Abubakar Mwankitina, but they are yet to receive any reply.
