NAIROBI: Medics on Tuesday defied Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and staged a major protest in the streets of Nairobi.

The doctors, led by Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) leaders defied CS Kindiki who termed the ongoing health workers strike unlawful and staged demonstrations in front of parliament buildings and Ministry of Health offices.

KMPDU called for the resignation of Health CS Susan Nakhumicha and the full implementation of the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Their demos came even as Interior CS Kithure Kindiki termed the nationwide strike unlawful and directed security agencies to use all lawful means and resources available to prevent any disruption of health service delivery.

The medics have raised 19 grievances with the top most being the immediate posting of medical interns and the settlement of salary arrears per the collective bargaining agreement.

KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah has insisted that the strike will not be called off until all their demands are met.
