Kenya Ferry services(KFS) has been urged to designate one ferry vessel for school going children to ease their movement.

Speaking on Baraka FM’s morning show, The Mega Breakfast, Mombasa County KNUT secretary General Dan Aloo said pupils and students are passing through difficulties everyday while crossing the Likoni channel.

He said its demoralizing and unsafe for young children heading to school to be sandwiched between adults who do not care about their safety especially during morning and evening rush hours.

“I have been there for fact finding mission and i saw young kids being pushed and  squeezed by a multitude of adults  which messes up with the psychology and well being of these children”, he stated.

Aloo proposed to the County government and relevant authorities to create by-laws that would compel the Kenya Ferry Services management to designate at least one vessel  for pupils and students.

He further proposed that the designated ferry can also be shared between school children, people with disabilities, the sick and during emergencies.

” The vessel can also be used by the disabled and the sick, because that is what a caring nation does to its citizens”, he added.
