Martin Dzombo Munga is the new Kenya Maritime Authority Director General.

Munga, appointed by the KMA board, will be taking over from John Omingo who served as the Acting Director General for the past 18 months.

“The Board of Directors of the Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Eng. Martin Dzombo Munga as the new Director General, effective from 15th December 2023,” read a statement from KMA Board Chair Hamisi Mwaguya.

Eng. Munga, a Naval Architect and Ocean Engineer is expected to bring a vast array of international experience and expertise to KMA.

“His extensive background in the maritime and shipping sectors across Europe has enabled him to demonstrate remarkable skills and leadership in various senior positions,” read the statement from Mwaguya.

He has in the past held senior positions in Beluga Shipping GmbH in Bremen, Germany, Siemens AG in the Energy Sector, Airbus at Finkenwerder in Hamburg, Germany, and Kroger Werft GmbH & Co.KG in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

“His roles in these companies have honed his maritime engineering and project management skills,” said the KMA Board of Directors.

“The Board is confident that Mr. Munga’s diverse experience and visionary leadership will be instrumental in achieving KMA strategic goals,” the Board added.

Munga has a Master’s in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from the Bremen University of Applied Sciences.

He is also a Microsoft Certified Sytems Engineer having received qualifications from GFN Training in Hamburg, Germany.

Under his directions, the Authority aims to enhance Maritime Safety, Security, and Environmental Stewardship, further strengthening Kenya’s standing in the global maritime industry,” said the Board.
