Mombasa Water (MOWASSCO) and Fresh Life signs MOU to offer sanitary hygiene to locals

Mombasa residents from low-income areas will benefit from life-changing sanitation and hygiene services.

This follows a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Mombasa Water Supply and Sanitation (MOWASSCO) and Fresh life Company.

Speaking on Tuesday during the signing of the MOU Mombasa, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) of Water and Natural resources Hon. Emily Achieng said the initiative is tailored at improving the delivery of sanitation activities in Mombasa County.

She expressed the County’s support in ensuring Mombasa residents benefit.

“Sanitation is a basic need. This partnership offers a holistic approach by addressing access to safe sanitation, improved public health outcomes as a result of reduced health risks emanating from poor Sanitation.” She said.

Additionally, the minister stated that the MOU will help in creating job opportunities to the youths and the residents of Mombasa as well as boosting the economy of the County…

“The Mou is aimed at creating jobs amongst youths and empower the residents of Mombasa economically” she stated.

On his part, the managing director of Fresh Life Company Antony Mulinge said the MOU marks the beginning of a fruitful partnership aimed at improving the quality of life for Mombasa residents, by expanding access to non-sewered sanitation in areas that are yet to benefit from sewerage infrastructure.

“This initiative goes in line with the with the National Water and Sanitation Investment Plan and is our mandate to so sure that we improve and provide services that of help to the residents in the low-income areas” he added.

He further stressed that the partnership will collaborate to establish a network of low-cost, clean, high-quality toilets and waste management services adapted to suit the needs of the community.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director of MOWASSCO, Mr. Farah Abdirahim, expressed his confidence in the collaboration, stating that, “MOWASSCO is committed to improving the quality of life for all residents in Mombasa.

Fresh Life is also working with KIWASCO, ELDOWAS and LWSC in similar agreements to provide sanitation to residents of Kisumu, Eldoret, and most recently Lusaka, Zambia.
