The body of a woman has been found dumped in a thicket in Shanzu, Mombasa County.

The headless naked body was recovered on Tuesday at Kalimaupepo area in Shanzu.

The body was discovered by a goat herder who then reported it to the security guard on duty.

The guard, James Amadeus then reported it to the village elder who informed the police.

“I got a call from the security guard at around 11 a.m. saying a body had been discovered here. I was shocked to find it had no head,” said Moses Aganya, Kalimaupepo village elder.

Residents of the area now want the thicket cleared saying that it was not the first time a body had been found there.

“We hear cases of children’s bodies being dumped here and people being raped in this thicket. I am quite sure there are human cadavers buried in this thicket,” claimed Aganya.

“Just the other day a tuktuk driver carried a passenger claiming to be going to one of the hotels, upon reaching this thicket, the passenger started strangling the driver with a wire. The driver was rescued by bodaboda riders, and that was in broad daylight,” added the village elder.

The residents have urged the county government to install streetlights and CCTV to curb insecurity in the area.

“The land owner should clear the thicket or build a perimeter wall around it because our bodaboda riders are also being hijacked here,” said Francis Ngala, bodaboda riders Chair.

The body was recovered from the scene by police and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives at around 1 p.m..
