MV. Logos Hope docked in Mombasa on Tuesday 23rd August 2023, in the morning and opened its doors to the public to explore and purchase books inside the World’s largest floating library.

The bookfair which was officially opened by Tourism Cabinet Secretary Peninah Malonza and Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir has seen Kenyans from different parts of the country and all walks of life making their way to the Mbaraki Wharf board the MV Logos Hope for a chance to explore the library.

The library has 5,000 different titled books arranged in different sections.

The array of books covers science, sports, hobbies, language, faith, cookery arts, and medicine.

The prices are in units which are converted into shillings. 100 units equal sh.320.

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir says the county will purchase some of the books in the library and distribute them to schools in Mombasa.

According to Mombasa County Education CECM Dr. Mbwarali Kame, the county is also planning for all secondary schools in Mombasa to visit the ship before it leaves.

“The school visits will be in shifts and also rotate within the different sub-counties in Mombasa for the 45 days that the ship will be here, so if today we bring students from Mvita sub-county then tomorrow we bring students from Nyali or Jomvu sub-county, and so on until we cover all the schools in the county,” said Dr. Mbwarali.

Meanwhile, Kenyans have been making their way to MV. Logos Hope which is open to the public from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. every Tuesday to Sunday, until the end of its 45 days visit to Mombasa.

Once on the ship, the first stop is just before entering the library where visitors get a short brief on the floor plan, what to expect, and the pricing of the books.

After the brief, visitors are then allowed into the library to browse through and purchase items including books, mugs, stationery, and toys.

After the library is the ‘journey of life’ corridor with cartoon illustrations of life choices.

The tour of MV Logos Hope ends at the cafe and photo area.
