Mombasa and Nairobi schools to remain closed over planned protests

All primary and secondary day schools in Mombasa and Nairobi counties will remain closed on Wednesday following the planned protests.

In a press statement signed by Education and Interior Ministries’ Cabinet Secretaries, day scholars will have to stay home on Wednesday as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of school children.

“As a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of school children, it has been decided that ALL day Primary and Secondary schools within Nairobi and Mombasa Counties SHALL remain closed tomorrow,” read the statement.

The Ministry of Education is expected to announce the resumption of learning in the aforesaid schools upon assessment of the security situation in the course of Wednesday.

“The government has received credible security intelligence that criminal elements planning to unleash terror and the public tomorrow intend to engage in armed skirmishes with security agencies around certain schools within Mombasa and Nairobi Counties,” read the statement.
