Relief food to arrive in Coast region Friday-Marwa

Over 100,000 trucks carrying relief food are on the way to the coast region and other parts of the country where residents are facing hunger and starvation.

State Department for Social protection services PS Nelson Marwa said the distribution of relief food to affected families  is expected to begin on Friday (tomorrow) ones the trucks arrive.

Speaking to Baraka FM on the Mega Breakfast Show, Marwa added that the food include; rice, maize, cooking oil, meat among other food items.

He also urged residents not be afraid seeing hundreds of trucks in their areas.

“The trucks include ones from military, NYS, NCPB and civilians which left Nairobi at 4am”, he added.

Marwa further warned officials against stealing and favouritism during food distribution.

“Don’t try to mess with this program or even steal the relief food because the law will deal with your firmly and decisively.”, he warned.

The relief food will be distributed to all counties in Coast affected by drought including; Taita Taveta, Lamu, Kwale, Tana River, Kilifi and Mombasa.
