ODM’s Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir elected Mombasa Governor

MOMBASA: Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir is Mombasa County’s Governor-elect.

Abdulswamad beat UDA’s Hassan Omar Sarai with 20,978 votes to emerge winner in the 29th of August Mombasa gubernatorial elections.

ODM’s Abdulswamad garnered 119,083 against UDA’s 98,105 votes to clinch the Mombasa top seat.

The outgoing Mvita Member of Parliament won in all the six sub-counties of Nyali, Mvita, Jomvu, Changamwe, Likoni and Kisauni. In his Mvita Contituency, Swamad garnered 24,106 votes against Omar’s 19,083.

His biggest margin was in Likoni sub-county where he managed 17,425 votes against his UDA counterpart’s 9,756.

Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, born on 12th July 1974, was the Member of Parliament for Mvita Constituency.

He was first elected in 2013 and managed to retain his seat in the 2017 elections.

He followed the footsteps of his father, the late Shariff Nassir, who was Mvita Member of Parliament from 1988 to 2002 under the Kenya African National Union (KANU).

Abdulswamad becomes Mombasa County’s second governor after Ali Hassan Joho completed his second term in office.
