The incoming county government of Kilifi has been urged to formulate laws and policies that address the plight facing people with disability within the county.

Speaking to the media in a Kilifi hotel on Monday, Kilifi county gender youth and culture officer Agneta Karembo said the move will ensure that disability issues are adequately addressed.

“It has been difficult for us to address matters concerning the disabled community,” she noted.

She however lauded efforts by the outgoing county leadership saying “the outgoing leadership has done its best, and it is now high time the incoming government focuses on formulating laws and policies for the disabled.”

On his part, Dream Achiever Youth Organization programs coordinator Enos Opiyo said the county government has not adequately addressed some of the policies touching on the community.

He lashed out at the county government on claims of failing to formulate laws for the disabled differently.

“We have always been championing for the rights of PWDs. We do most of our programs in Mombasa, Kilifi, Nairobi and Kisumu counties,” Opiyo said.
