Political realignments are in the offing in Kilifi County after reknown lawyer Mr. George Kithi opted to run for Governorship.

Until his declaration, Kithi was vying for Kilifi Senator post currently held by Stewart Madzayo (ODM).

Local analysts and politicians from Kilifi County had regarded him as the man to beat for the senate seat.

Kithi revealed that he will be vying on Pamoja African Alliance Party (PAA) ticket, which is associated with outgoing Governor Jefwa Kingi.

Stressing why he picked PAA as his party of choice, Kithi dismissed ODM party as a non-starter in Kilifi politics while accusing UDA party of dictatorship.

“ODM is no longer popular in Kilifi. ODM no longer fights for the interest of coastal people. For UDA, its full of dictatorship, i was not even allowed to air my views”, he said.

Before bagging Mr. Kithi, the PAA party had not identified a candidate for the County boss job.

However, mixed reactions have greeted the sudden U-turn with a section of Kilifi County residents faulting the move.

“He is lost”, reads a comment on Facebook post regarding the announcement.

However, a section of residents welcomed the move saying Kithi is fit to be the next Kilifi boss after Kingi.

“All the best mheshimiwa”, reads another comment.

The Kilifi Gubernatorial seat has drawn more than seven candidates including; current Deputy Governor Mr. Gideon Saburi, Land CAS Mr.Gideon Mung’aro and Malindi Mp Aisha Jumwa.

Others are Jumuiya ya kaunti za pwani CEO Mr. Emmanuel Nzai, Kilifi County Assembly speaker Jimmy Kahindi, former Labour CS Kazungu Kambi and Kenyan Envoy to Tanzania Dan Kazungu.
