9,000 families receive food aid in Tana River

About 9,000 people in Tana River County have benefited from government food aid.

Residents of Kalkacha village, Galole constituency welcomed the food aid saying it will save them from starvation following a prolonged drought.

They also urged the government to help them develop irrigation projects to make the area food secure.

Tana River County Commissioner Mbogai Rioba said more than 100,000 people in the county had been severely affected by the drought.

The national government has been asked to co-ordinate with Kilifi County government to reach out to more victims.

The Chief Officer for the Department Of Devolution, Public Service &Disaster Management, Kilifi County Mr. Adan Mohamed , said this would help ensure food security.
