Find lasting solution to Ganze famine, Gov’t told

The government has been urged to find a lasting solution to the famine and hunger facing residents in Ganze Constituency ,Kilifi County.

Speaking to reporters, Tungule foundation director Robert Galo said food aid was not a solution to the problem.

He stated that drilling dams aimed at developing agriculture was the only solution to the problem.

“We need lasting solutions. Yes hunger is a problem but lack of water is the most problematic issue here. If we had boreholes, we could do irrigations of land to grow food”, he said.

He said the government should take advantage of Ganze being near river Galana and encourage residents to embrace irrigation.

Meanwhile Sokoke ward MCA Taura Mweni who said there was a need for the government to encourage irrigation by digging more boreholes.

Elsewwhere residents of Mlima wa Ndege in Ganze are in risk of dying from hunger pangs due to starvation.

According to the residents, since the famine began, no food aid has reached them.
