Kwale County Governor Salim Mvurya has strongly condemned residents who attack fire trucks when they arrive late at scenes of disasters.

Speaking in the Msambweni, Mvurya said he was shocked by the move by residents to stone a Kiscol sugar company’s fire truck a week ago.

The fire engine was responding to a distress call of a fire incident.

“We can’t continue with these behaviours. You stone a fire engine truck simply for arriving late to a fire incident yet you don’t even understand the dynamics involved”, he said.

He also defended the act of seeking the help of a fire engine from neighbouring Mombasa County stating that they have fire engines in Kwale County but they were faulty.

Mvurya was reacting after residents complained about the lack of fire engines last week heaping blame on him.

“It is a shame that these fire crew usually come to our help when it’s too late.”, they said.
