Murder suspect Lawrence Warunge and his girlfriend Sarah Muthoni will be detained for 14 days before being arraigned and charged in court.

Chief Magistrate in Kiambu Patricia Gichohi allowed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to continue holding the suspects until investigations are completed.

Gichohi ordered Warunge to be detained at Gigiri police station while his girlfriend Muthoni will be remanded at Muthaiga police station.

The suspect attacked his father Nicholas Warunge who had jumped from the balcony, attempting to flee the visceral attack and stabbed him 34 times, attacked his mother Anne Wanjiku in the kitchen and his 12-year-old brother.

He is also accused of killing his 13-year-old cousin and James Kinyanjui, a mason who lived a few meters from the main house.

During the two-week period, Warunge will also undergo mental assessment.

After his arrest, he confessed to the incident and led police to a residence in Mai Mahiu area on Saturday where they recovered the killer weapon- a kitchen knife, piece of clothes, shoes, and a piece of paper. He had thrown the exhibits to a pit latrine.

He claimed his inspiration came from an American tv drama ‘Killing Eve’.
