A man was on Friday arrested in Lamu County for flying a drone over a police post.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, police officers on duty at Tchundwa police post based in Lamu, noticed an object hovering high above the post.
“Upon swift action by our officers, it was immediately established that the object was an unmanned aircraft,” said the DCI.
The DCI say that an operation to nab the drone operator commenced immediately, leading to the arrest of one suspect, Arqam Mohamed Shaffi, who claimed to have traveled from Mombasa, ostensibly to visit his relatives in Lamu.
The suspect is being interrogated to ascertain the veracity of his claims & establish his motive.
“We wish to caution the public that a Police Station is a gazetted jurisdiction & as such, any Police premises remains a high security establishment. Accordingly, any acts that may seem to compromise the security of such an establishment shall be met with the full force of the law,” said the DCI.
