A Mijikenda Lobby group now wants the Cabinet Secretary for health Mutahi Kagwe, his Principal Secretary Susan Mochache, and the entire Board to step aside and pave way for investigations into the alleged loss COVID-19 funds.
Taireni Amidzichenda group said the persons who were holding office when the funds were allegedly lost should be forced to step aside.
Addressing a press conference in Malindi together with Reverend Francis Katana of Christ the King Baptist Church, Peter Ponda the Chairman of Taireni Amidzichenda accused the government of being selective in the fight against corruption.
”The Chairman of KEMSA the entire board should be disbanded so that investigation is done properly, ” he said.
Ponda said
those who looted the COVID 19 funds stole under the care of the CS and KEMSA
Board.
”Kagwe when the COVID Funds were stolen where were you, KEMSA chairman where
were you when the COVID funds were being looted, now you are telling us
stories, take that responsibility to step aside stop going round praising
President Uhuru Kenyatta,” he added.
The alleged loss of funds meant to help the country fight the global pandemic
that has infected more than 30,000 Kenyans has elicited anger from a section of
Kenyan.
Last week Police clashed with activists who had gathered in Mombasa to demand a probe into the alleged embezzlement
The protestors had started their procession at the Makadara grounds in Mombasa before police threw teargas in an attempt to break the protest.
The protest saw three people who include activist Francis Auma, the Muslim for Human Rights (MUHURI) rapid response officer, Lucas Fondo, and a university student arrested by anti-riot officers who had been called to quell the protest.
