The body of a six year old child has been retrieved from rubble of a building which collapsed in Kericho town on Tuesday.
Kericho County Police Commander Silas Gichunge and Kenya Red Cross Society coordinator Sifia Tuwei said that the body was retrieved on Wednesday morning.
The duo said that two people are admitted at Kericho County Referral hospital and are in stable condition.
“It is unfortunate that by the time rescuers managed to get to the boy, he had succumbed to the injuries after the walls of the house he was living in collapsed on him,” Gichunge said
The three-storey residential building which housed six families collapsed on Tuesday evening trapping several people.
Tenants are reportedly to have been pointing that the buildings had cracks as the proprietor checked the building’s integrity.
Residents said that the building started showing cracks on Sunday before slowly sinking and eventually collapsing Tuesday.
Kericho Municipality, Municipal Manager Joseph Rotich urged tenants to be checking their environment to ensure their safety noting that, had the tenants been proactive they would have moved out in good time.
