Police in Kwale shot and killed a terror suspect at his house in Kibundani area within Diani on Friday night.
According to a police report filed at 2:50am, a Multi-Agency elite unit on patrol in Kibundani area, at 11pm, went to the house of suspected Al-Shabaab recruiter, Saidi Chitswa alias Ninja, who was allegedly planning to launch attacks at undisclosed.
Upon interrogation, he led the officers to the house of another suspect, Mohamed Mapenzi alias Spanya, to search for weapons. Police say the suspect refused orders to open the door.
“As the officers were preparing to break in, the suspect suddenly opened the door and threw a grenade towards the officers slightly injuring one of them. This prompted the officers to open fire fatally injuring him and two minors he was using as human shield,” read the report in part.
The suspect’s wife and three other children also sustained injuries and were rushed to Msambweni referral hospital for treatment.
“Recovered is one live grenade and assorted jungle uniform. Two suspects have been arrested and placed in custody pending interrogation and bodies taken to Kwale morgue awaiting Post Mortem,” read the report.
