Five more test positive for COVID-19 in Mombasa, herbalist among new cases

Mombasa County has recorded five new cases of COVID-19 bringing the total number of cases in the County to 44.

Total number of cases in the Coast region is now at 55 with Kilifi and Kwale Counties having 11 and one case respectively.

The National tally is currently at 262 cases after 16 more people tested positive on Saturday.

During a press briefing on the status update of COVID-19 in the country, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said 15 of the new cases were of Kenyans and one a foreigner. None of them were from quarantine cases.

12 of the new cases are male and four female. They are aged between 23 and 84 years. Among them is a herbalist whose herbs did not prevent him from contracting the virus.

“The 84 year old was a person who also believed in treating people via herbal medicines,” said CS Kagwe.

Seven more people recovered from the disease bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 60.

Number of deaths from the disease increased to 13 after two more people died.

In terms of age distribution of those who have contracted the disease, those between zero and 14 years are eight, 70 are aged between 15 and 29, those in the 30-59 age bracket are 164 while 20 of the confirmed cases are above 60 years old.
