Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o will serve as acting as Kisumu County’s Health County Executive Committee Member pending the appointment of a substantive CEC.

This comes amid measures being put in place by the County Government to curb the spread of Coronavirus.

In a mini reshuffle, Ny’ong’o moved Prof Judith Miguda Attyang to be County Executive Committee member for Business, Cooperative and Marketing.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 179 (2) (b) of the constitution of Kenya 2010 and Section 30 (d) of the County Government Act.

“I have today nominated Dr. Joyce Atieno Osogo as the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Roads, Public Works and Transport,” Nyongo said.

“I have also nominated Prof. Judith Miguda Attyang’ to be the CECM for Business Cooperatives and Marketing. In the meantime, I will personally take over the management of the Department of Health and Sanitation!” He added.

The County’s Emergency Response Committee had this week recommended the closure of all open air markets in Kisumu County saying the situation will be reviewed in 3 weeks time.

The County is providing hand washing facilities among them water and soap as well as hand sanitizers in all public places.

The County Government is also conducting continuous capacity building and training for all health care workers including Community Health Workers and has instituted heightened disease surveillance and efficient referral system equipped with ambulance and trained personnel.
