Two mobile money fraudsters arrested in Mombasa

Police in Mombasa have apprehended two suspected mobile phone money transfer fraudsters.

Kisauni Sub County police commander Julius Kiragu, confirmed Stephen Mwaniki 33-year-old and Praxides Saba 27-year-were arrested in Kiembeni, Mombasa.

The suspects allegedly took a mobile phone in Mombasa on March 4, 2020 and borrowed a loan of sh.15,000 in his Mshwari account and another loan of sh.5,500 in his KCB mobile banking.

“They requested him to provide them with his details including identity card number, phone PIN and inform them amount of money he had saved in his M-pesa” said Kiragu.

He advised members of public to protect their PIN and passwords

Kiragu said that the suspects live in Nairobi and had visited Mombasa pretending to be employees of a leading mobile phone service provider in the Country.

Hundreds of Kenyans have lost money through mobile money transfers after sharing their account details with fraudsters.

The suspects are to be arraigned in Court.
