Otile Brown and Susumila are the top MCSK royalties’ earners from the coast region.
This is according to the MCSK royalties list that was released by the society on Thursday that saw Sauti Sol, Nyashinski, Christina Shusho, Mercy Masika and Eunice Njeri Mathenge named as the top earners.
Otile Brown was the 10th highest earner while Susumila is the 19th highest paid earner.
Fast-rising star Masauti who in December was named the highest streamed coastal artiste by music streaming company boom play did not make it to the top 20 list.
Other artists who appeared on the list include rhumba band Les Wanyika at position nine and Bahati at position six.
Masauti named as most-streamed artist from the coast region
(MCSK) chairman Japhet Kassanga said that a new system was used in calculating the amount due to each artist as they had collected and disbursed Ksh37 million in copyright and license fees to artists during the last six months of last year.
The highest beneficiary received 400,000 shillings which are royalties from radio stations and TV stations.
“We continue with our culture of recognizing top-earning artists on airplay data collected from radio and TV stations,” Kasanga said
“MCSK PPP royalty distribution is for the period between 1st July and 31st December 2019.”He added.
This comes just a few months after artistes called out the society over poor pay to artists.
