The Senate accounts and Investment committee has fined Kitui governor Charity Ngilu a whooping shs 500,000.
Issuing the directive at parliamentary buildings when governor Ngilu appeared before the committee on Friday, Chair of accounts and investment committee senator Moses Kajwang said that the committee slapped the governor with such amount for failing to submit documents to the committee as stipulated by the law.
“Senate will fine you 500,000 for having appeared but failed to bring documents with your correspondents,” Kajwang said
Kajwang accused the governor of failing to appear before the committee several times vowing that next time they will summon the governor to appear before the committee to answer to queries covering 2015 to 2018 financial years.
The chair pointed out that the governor was expected to pay the fine from her pocket and not from the county funds.
However, Ngilu said that she will write to the committee in a bid to appeal the decision.
