Kidero arrested again over sh68 million scandal

Nairobi, KENYA: Former Nairobi County Governor Evans Kidero has been arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission for irregular payment of sh.68 million to the law firm of Wachira Mburu and Mwangi company advocates.

Kidero alongside former Chief of staff Nairobi County George Wainana Njogu were arrested on Friday morning.

“The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission(EACC) initially submitted the duplicate inquiry file to this office on 11th December 2018, and upon perusal and and consideration of the evidence therein a number of gaps were identified that required to be covered by way of further investigations before charges could be filed in court,” the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji said in statement.

The DPP further stated that there is sufficient evidence to support criminal charges against the 16 suspects.

Dpp has said the suspects will be taken in court and face five charges including conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption, abuse of office, unlawful acquisition of public property,dealing with suspect property and money laundering.

Other suspects to be arraigned in court are former director legal affair Aduma Joshua, former mayor John Ndirangu, Paul Mutunga, Manasseh Kepha, Philomena Nzuki, Ng’ang’a Mungai, Charity Ndiritu, Peterson Njiru, Ekaya Alumasi, James Mbugua, Elizabeth Ndiritu, Alice Mundia, Hannah Kariuki, John Wainana and The Cups limited.
