Tana River, KENYA: Tana River County youths kicked off the Governor’s football tournament on Wednesday after its launch on Tuesday by Governor Dhadho Godhana.
The tournament, which will begins from the village level. was aimed at bringing youth from across the county together as one way of countering terrorism.
Speaking during the launch Governor Godhana said his government was busy planning for measures of nurturing talents of Tana River youths from different aspects.
Of the 267 teams participating, 233 are men’s and 34 women’s.
Those who will take the first to sixth positions in the men’s team will be rewarded sh.200,000, sh.100,000, sh.50,000, sh.40,000, sh.30,000 and sh.25,000 respectively while in the ladies’ teams only 1st to 3rd positions will get rewards.
According to Godhana the tournament will also include volleyball matches which will begin later.
The county chief disclosed that his government had set aside one million shillings for the tournament saying that he was ready to raise the Tana Talents including ball games and Olympics.
