Mombasa,KENYA: An operation to take children to school has begun in Mombasa.

The operation is being headed by the Mombasa county commissioner Evans Achoki among other security officials who have warned parents from hiding their children and denying them their right to education.

Speaking on phone to Baraka FM, the county commissioner said that the operation will start at Majengo where there is a high number of children who are not attending school despite the government providing free primary school education.

The operation will then rotate to  Jomvu, Kisauni Mvita, Changamwe and Likoni sub-counties.

“We have also liaised with neighboring counties, such as Kwale and Kilifi so that they can inform us whenever those children escape to those counties,” Achoki said.

Achoki said that the operation will be conducted through the assistance of chief’s and village elders who will patrol beaches and parks where they will be looking for children idling there.

He added that action will be taken against any parent found aiding the children to avoid school.

This comes just a week after school heads, education officials and administration officials held a meeting to deliberate on how the operation will be conducted.
