Airport workers arrested for stealing luggage straps at JKIA

Nairobi, KENYA: Two airport workers have been arrested for allegedly stealing luggage straps at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi.

The two, Evans Okola Agunda, an aircraft marshaller, and Mercy Chepkorir, an intern, were arrested on Saturday after they were allegedly spotted stealing luggage straps belonging to the African Freight Services at the JKIA.

CCTV footage from the airport shows Evans driving to where the luggage is, getting off the car, checking around and picking one of the straps, checks around again then hands it to Mercy who is believed to be sitted on the co-driver seat. Evans then goes back to the car.

The footage which was shared by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on their twitter handle also shows the suspect getting out of the car again, picking another strap, putting it in the backseat before driving off.

According to the DCI, the two are in custody and will be charged on Monday.
