The Malindi Cultural District Association has rejected the recently launched Giriama competency-based curriculum books.

The three books launched earlier in the week at the Pwani University in a ceremony graced by professor Ngugi wa Thiong’o are meant to be used by nursery school children.

However, the association has termed the books as those written poorly.

According to the association secretary General Joseph Karisa Mwarandu, the author of the books Samson Kahindi is a person who is not fluent in the Giriama language hence there are fears that the books could be misleading.

Karisa said they had written to the Kilifi department of education and the ministry of education requesting them not to allow the books to be used for by ECDE going pupils.

The group has threatened to go to court should their letters be defied.

The competency-based curriculum books were published by the East African Educational Publishers.
