Body of Tana River hippo attack victim recovered

Tana River, KENYA: The body of a man who was allegedly attacked by a hippo in Maziwa village at the Tana Delta, Tana River County has been found.

Speaking to Baraka FM on phone on Saturday, a relative to the deceased said Enock Bonaya’s body was found floating on river Tana waters at Maziwa village.

Bonaya was allegedly attacked by a hippopotamus after alighting a boat on the other side of the river while going to carry out some farming.

His body was found by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers who had gone to the scene with their boat to find the body accompanied by villagers.

Salim, the relative who spoke to Baraka FM said they were already planning for burial of the deceased.

“The deceased has been found floating on the water at Maziwa flowing downwards but we have rescued it, thank God we have it here at home. We are this night preparing a grave so that we can bury him,” Salim said.

Tana Delta OCPD had earlier confirmed the incident which took place on Friday morning.
