Tanzanian veteran taarab icon Mzee Yusuf was on Sunday night attacked by gunmen at his home Chanika Buyuni, Ilala District, Dar es Salaam.
According to Tanzanian media reports,the armed men gained access to Mzee Yusuf’s home by scaling over the wall.
The attackers made away with items of undisclosed value among them an iPhone, watch worth sh 22,000 and three silver rings worthy 18,000.
Mzee Yusuf efforts to fight back the gang were futile as they overpowered him.
The attack has left Mzee Yusuf’s wife Leila Rashid nursing injuries from the attack as she too tried to fight back the attackers.
Confirming the attack, Mzee Yusuf said that the attack left his wife hospitalized.
“Ni kweli nimekumbwa na majanga ya kuvamiwa na majambazi na hivi tunavyoongea niko hospitali hapa Chanika nahangaika na hali ya mke wangu ambaye ameumia,” Mzee Yusuf said.

“Muda mfupi baada ya majambazi hao kuondoka nilipiga simu polisi ambapo baada ya kama nusu saa walifika na kuanza kufanya uchunguzi wa awali kisha kuwafuatilia walipoelekea,” he added
(After the attackers left, I called the police who responded half an hour later and started their investigation chasing after the gang).
