Calls for Echesa to step down over amputee team saga gain momentum

Nairobi,KENYA:A section of legislators have blasted sports cabinet secretary Rashid Achesa demanding that it is either he performs or steps down over the predicament Kenya amputee football team players have undergone after they landed in the country from Mexico.

In a media briefing at parliamentary buildings, Member of Parliament representing persons with disabilities, Dennittah Ghatti accused the sports ministry of failing to take care of  the welfare of the team.

This was after shocking photos  which showed the team sleeping on the floor at the Ministry’s headquarters emerged online.

Ghatti criticized the CS over the tribulations players have undergone after it emerged that they were not given their allowances after the match .

The legislator insisted that if the cabinet secretary will  not root out  the messes being witnessed he ought to step down.

“I think the sports CS is sleeping, this issue can’t go this far ,It is either this minister styles up or step aside , we can’t keep behaving this way.”Ghatti said

On Thursday at 10 am, the Kenya national amputee football team made their way to the Sports ministry offices to present their participation trophy after a stellar performance at the Amputee Football World Cup in México.

The team had just returned from Mexico on Wednesday night where they had participated in the Amputee world cup football  emerging position two in Africa after Angola.

The stellar performance saw the team ranked position 12 out of 24 in the Amputee Football World Cup rankings.

However,Baraka FM has established that since going to Mexico, the players had not been paid a single cent yet, they had spent a whole month training at the Parklands Sports Club.
