You should be careful when using the road and stop speeding.

Accident statistics from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) show that the number of people who have been involved in road accidents and even died from the accidents has increased this year compared to last year.

The data collected between 1st January and 3rd October this year shows that 2,300 people lost their lives on the roads compared to 2,117 in the same period last year.

889 of those who died were pedestrians, 99 more than the 790 who perished last year.

Passenger deaths reduced by five to 523 compared to 528 last year.

Drivers deaths increased by five to 235, while that of pillion passengers increased by 15 from 172 last year to 187 this year.

The total number of those involved in accident saw a 14.6 percent increase to 9,738 from 8,501 last year.
