Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has dismissed rumours doing rounds on social media that he was arrested by EACC on Thursday morning over corruption allegations.

Through his press secretary, Mutinda Mwanzia, Mutua termed the allegations as malicious.

“We have noted with concern the fake alert whose aim was to tarnish the image of Governor Mutua. Relevant authorities must crack down on the perpetrators of such vile lies,” said Mutinda Mwanzia in a statement.

The governor who spent the whole day at requiem service that was held for his late advisor, Mzee Sammy Mbova, even shared photos of him and other leaders at the service on social media.

The rumours started on Thursday as former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero was at EACC with people speculating that the next one on the DPP’s list would be Governor Mutua.

The speculations have come at time when Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji has intensified fight on graft corruption and abuse of office by politicians and those in government offices with the first governor facing the DPP’s wrath being Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong’.

Ex Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero was arrested on Wednesday and released on Thursday on a sh.2 million cash bail.
