IEBC to kickoff countrywide voter registration exercise

Nairobi,KENYA:The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC, is planning to kick off a countrywide voter registration exercise.

In a briefing to county election managers on Monday, the commission’s chair Wafula Chebukati has said the aim of the exercise is to increase the number of registered voters by three percent.

“Continuous Voter Registration is a statutory requirement.’’ He said.

IEBC statistics for registered voters stands at 19,611,423.

Nairobi County leads with a total of 2,250,853 voters followed by Kiambu which has 1,180,920 eligible voters.

Nakuru county is third with 949,618 voters followed by Kakamega’s 743, 736 and Meru’s 702, 480.

Mombasa County is position eight with 580,223 voters whereas Machakos emerged sixth with 620,254 voters followed by Murang’a which has 587,126.

In the Coast region , Kilifi county has the second highest number of voters with  508,068 followed by Kwale at 281,041, Taita Taveta  at 155, 716, Tana River 118 327, and Lamu 69,776 respectively.
