Teacher who went missing found dead in Maungu

Taita Taveta,KENYA:A secondary school teacher who has been missing for a week has been found dead at a thicket in the outskirts of Maungu town,Taita Taveta County.

KUPPET executive Secretary Shedrack Mutungi confirmed that the body of Mwaghogho secondary school teachers was found dangling on a tree in the forest on Wednesday morning.

“It’s so sad to report that Mr Kepha Otuoma who has been missing from last week Wednesday has been found dead, his body dangling from a tree at Maungu,” he said.

The KUPPET executive Secretary said he had visited the scene with other teachers and relatives who confirmed that body belongs to Mr Otuoma.

“The police have collected the body and took it to St. Josephs Ikanga hospital mortuary. We have ensured the body is preserved. Let us leave it police to investigate the cause of the death,” he said.

Mr Mutungi condoled with the bereaved to the family, friends, neighbours and Mwaghogho Sec School family and asked them to maintain peace as police establish what could have led to the death of the teacher .

Voi OCPD Joseph Chesire called for patience and said police have launched investigation into the matter.

“Detectives are currently piecing information together to determine if the deceased killed himself or was strangled elsewhere and body hanged on the tree at the scene where he was found ,” said Mr Chesire.

The 35-year-old was reported missing since last Wednesday before he was found dead one week later.

Mr Mutungi called on the police to conduct thorough investigations to unravel if he was murdered and the motive behind it.
