Agricultural committee issues fresh summons to Matiang’i

 Nairobi,KENYA:House joint committee  on agriculture and trade has summoned interior cabinet Dr Fred Matiangi to appear before the committee without fail over contraband  sugar saga hitting the country .

Speaking at parliamentary buildings after Matiangi failed to appear before the committee which was scheduled on Tuesday to interrogate him on the contraband sugar saga after Matiangi failed to appear before the committee on Monday where Trade cabinet secretary Adan Mohammed ;Agriculture and irrigation cabinet secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri ,and treasury cabinet secretary Henry Rotich appeared before the committee to shed light on the matter.

Trade committee chair Kanini Kega and Agriculture committee chair Adan Ali Hajji said that as per the summons they issued on Tuesday on  Matiangi  indicated that he must appear before the committee to give more  information on the matter after he alleged that sugar imported entailed mercury substance.

But a letter from interior ministry which was privy to the joint committee indicated that the interior CS requested  for more time before the he reacts to the issues raised by the committee.

The letter indicated that Matiangi was engaged else where in president  Uhuru Kenyatta’s meeting with
East African Community heads of state.

Mr Kenyatta is hosting Presidents Yoweri Museveni (Uganda) and Paul Kagame (Rwanda) as well as a Special Envoy of President Salva Kiir of South Sudan for the 14th Summit of the Northern Corridor Integration Projects (NCIP) at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.

The joint committee has a window period of up to Friday this week to finalize the report on contraband sugar saga in the country before it is tabled before the house.
