Nairobi, KENYA: Police have arrested Kenya Bureau of Standards KEBS Managing Director Charles Ongwae over suspected contaminated sugar into the country.
Ongwae who was arrested on Friday and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation DCI for further questioning.
Nine other Kebs top officials have also been arrested including quality assurance and inspection director, Mr. Eric Chesire, and head of the inspection department, Mr. Eric Ochieng.
This comes a day after the MD during the grilling by the parliamentary committee on Trade and Industry said that the sugar samples were found to be having high levels of copper and lead but not mercury as initially claimed by the Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i.
