Spain sack coach just a day to World cup

Moscow, RUSSIA: Spain’s football federation has sacked its head coach Julen Lopetegui just 24hrs before the 2018 FIFA World cup kicks off in Russia.

This comes in the wake of Lopetegui decision to sign a three-year deal to succeed Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid on Monday, a move believed to have irritated the Spain’s football governing body.

Spain, the 2010 World Cup champions will open their World campaign with a group match against European champions Portugal on Friday.

Meanwhile, FIFA on Wednesday voted to play the 2026 World Cup in North America over Moroccan bid. Matches will be held in U.S., Canada and Mexico.
