Mombasa,KENYA: A CID officer has died after he was stabbed by a suspected drug peddler in Kisauni, Mombasa.
The officer lost his life while undergoing treatment at a Mombasa hospital.
Kisauni Deputy County Commissioner Kipchumba Ruto confirmed to Baraka fm the passing on of the CID officer whom he identified only as “Njoroge’.
“It’s true, one of our officers died today in hospital after he was stabbed. He was rushed to hospital following the Tuesday incident but he succumbed to his injuries’, he told Baraka fm.
According to Ruto, the deceased CID officer was attached to Mombasa Dog unit. He died today morning.
The cop and his colleague allegedly shot at the suspected drug peddler whom they were trailing at Magodoroni. However, when they went to check on him, the suspect stabbed the officer on the chest.
Ruto said the other officer sensing danger, opened fire on the suspect who was lying on the ground .
“The other officer fired at the suspect to secure the firearm of his colleague after the stabbing”, he added.
The Deputy county commissioner said police have launched investigations into the incident warning that they will not relent in the fight against drug business in Kisauni.
