Baraka FM team roaring to go despite being in a tricky Pool

Mombasa,KENYA: Baraka FM football team is oozing confidence ahead of the inaugural Safaricom Coast inter-media five-a-side football tournament set for Saturday at Mkomani grounds, Mombasa.

Captained by midfield maestro Sammy Mwaura, winger-cum striker Wycliffe Okumu and the towering forward Oscar Nyoha, the team has set sight on the Sh50,000 cash prize which is up for grabs.

This is despite being pooled in Group D alongside worthy opponents such as Standard, Radio Africa and International Media where the first two teams will proceed to the quarter finals.

‘’We are ready to face any opponent because that is the only way we can achieve our target of becoming the champions. I know all the participating teams have a similar goal but I believe we are strong enough to ease past any opponent,’’ said Mwaura.

The tournament has attracted a total of 17 teams with group A consisting of five teams; NTV, Kaya FM, KBC, Safaricom and Coast Media Group.

Group B has Daily Nation, Bloggers, Radio Salaam and Coast Diaspora while group C comprises of KTN, Media Max, Radio Rahama and Royal Media.

The tournament has rules dictating that each team must at least include a female player in its starting five while there is no offside rule with each match lasting for 20 minutes.

A part from the Sh50,000 set aside for the winner, runners up and third placed teams will be rewarded with Sh30,000 and Sh20,000 respectively while the best player, top scorer and best goalkeeper will take home Sh. 10,000 each.
