Nairobi,KENYA:Embattled IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati has finally conceded that the issue of lack of  quorum following the resignation of 3 IEBC commissioners,is becoming a challenge to the commission to effectively carry out its mandate.
Appearing before the Senates Justice and legal Affairs Committee, the three remaining IEBC commissioners led by IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati told the committee that despite the lack of quorum, the commission will be able to conduct the by- elections in Baringo,Migori and Kisii counties slated for the 17th of August this year, because the commissions ICT and Human Resource committees incharge of the by elections is not affected by the quorum hitch.
The commissioners also told the committee that the office of the  Attorney general and the president is yet to respond to their letter regarding the status of the  official resignation of commissioners Conny Nkatha,Margaret Mwachanya and Paul Kurgat who resigned on the 16th of April, decrying Chebukatis style of leadership.
On the issue of the suspension of IEBC Ceo Ezra Chiloba,Chebukati told the committee that Chiloba’s fate will be determined by the results of an internal audit which is currently ongoing at the commission.
Meanwhile IEBC is seeking to reduce the number of elections in a day from 6 to 2 noting that 6 has proven to be a challenge to the commission to effectively conduct credible elections.
IEBC also says deliberations on the Introduction of e-voting for the people living in the Diaspora is ongoing, to facilitate all Kenyans wiling to exercise their democratic right to vote and to reduce undue expenses.
