Suspected wakalikwanza gang member shot dead in Likoni


Likoni, KENYA: A suspected member of notorious criminal gang of wakali kwanza has been shot dead in Likoni, a day after another gang member was killed in Kisauni by police.

The suspect was gunned down Wednesday night near msikiti Noor in Likoni sub-county.

Police said six other suspects escaped leaving their crude weapons, three pangas and knives were recovered.

Likoni police chief Benjamin Rotich confirmed to Baraka FM that they were seven suspects who were terrorizing residents in dudus area and when police were alerted about the incident, they mobilized them to the area but suspects defy police order to surrender prompting police to fire shots killing one on the spot.

“We had received information that there is a gang terrorizing residents and robbing them, we dispatched our officers on arriving there the suspects were armed with pangas and knives,’’ said the police boss.

He said police are yet to identify the deceased but ruled out he is a member of notorious criminal gang terrorizing Likoni residents.

This comes barely a day after another suspect was set ablaze by angry residents in Approved area in likoni.

The number brings to three criminal gangs killed in Mombasa within a period of two days.

The body was moved to coast general morgue.
