Mombasa, KENYA: The National Nurses Association has demanded the closure of the Chiromo lane medical centre in Nairobi following an incident on Wednesday, where a nurse was allegedly shot dead by a patient who had been admitted to the hospital.

Speaking to journalists in Mombasa on Friday, the association chair Alfred Abengo said that they had written to the Ministry of Health to close down the facility with immediate effect till investigations into the incident were complete.

“That hospital should be closed with immediate effect and if it is not closed down on Monday we will be organizing a demo to that hospital to close it down,” Abengo told journalists.

Abengo further said that they will sue the facility to demand justice for their colleague.
Reports indicate that the psychiatric patient arrived at the upmarket facility on Wednesday evening for his medical checkup when he shot the nurse who was attending to him.

On Thursday, police arrested the suspect identified as John Muigai Njoroge and detained him at the Gigiri police station after which he is expected to be charged with murder.
