Kwale,KENYA:Kwale county governor Salim Mvuya has amiably welcomed the Mombasa high court decision dismissing a petition challenging his re-election.

The petition had been filled by a voter called Mwamlole Mbwana who is also a supporter of a gubernatorial candidate Ali Chirau Mwakwere.

Accompanied by his deputy Fatma Achani and hundreds of supporters of Mvurya applauded the move terming the court decision as a win for Kwale people.

“As Kwale people you voted well knowing that the development we did is enormous. On behalf of Kwale I want to thank the court because the verdict is well deserved as we won in all constituencies,” Mvurya said.

The Governor contended that he was voted in because of his development record and that he will still win even if the court would have decided for a repeat poll.

He joked that he conquered his opponents both in the polls and now in the court.

“We are also hoping that our president will win the petition against his re-election,” he said.

His deputy Fatma Achani said that they will now divert all their energy and time on what they promised residents.

“We know the governor won with majority of the votes and even if we go back to the polls today he will still win with large margin,” she said.

In her ruling Justice Mugure Thande said the petitioner failed to enjoin Mvurya’s deputy and including the date of the results declaration and the results each candidate got rendering the petition defective.
