Nairobi,KENYA:The Independent policing oversight Authority has launched investigations into alleged assault of the University of Nairobi students by police officers.
In a statement to newsrooms on Friday, the appealed for information from members of the public and students who might have been affected saying it had dispatched investigators to probe the matter.
“IPOA on its own motion has proceeded to dispatch its rapid response unit to investigate the matter .IPOA will investigate the allegations of assault and any other misconduct against the police officers”Reads part of the statement.
The probe comes just a day after videos emerged on social media showing police officers purportedly beating a group of young students.
The students were protesting the detention of former SONU chair and Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino.
